Approach

“Internal harmony is your most precious commodity. ”

But it takes rigorous exploration of your psyche to understand and achieve a state of mind that allows you to live freely, passionately and creatively. I believe that every behavior can be understood and each person can be met. My task is to listen, track, and formulate an interpretation that illuminates your unconscious and greatly augments your understanding of yourself. We work as a team whereby I channel your unconscious thoughts and feelings by interpreting your confidences to me.  Through time and consistent contact, your insight into yourself invariably helps you connect with the more constructive and creative aspects of your personality so you can make better choices for yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs therapy?

I believe that most people can benefit greatly from therapy. Regardless of our level of success, part of the human condition is that we operate to some degree from our unconscious. And for many of us, depending on your level of awareness, the consequences can be horribly disadvantageous, if not dangerous, to you. For example, you may struggle with excessive anxiety, an Eating Disorder, Sex or Drug addiction or emotional volatility. By increasing our awareness, by making conscious what is unconscious, we can change the structure of our mind so that we can function more efficiently and constructively, and engage more passionately.

I have so many friends who would listen to me for free.

I am trained to listen differently. I track your body, emotions and words and help you gain insight into what you don’t know really well about yourself.

Why do I need therapy? I can get a self-help book from any bookstore.

Yes, you can. My function is not to change your behavior or give you a moral lecture. I listen very carefully to what you say and attempt to identify underlying patterns and beliefs that no longer work for you. I say “no longer” because they likely developed early on as a way of protecting and defending your ego. Therapy is not about giving you the right answers or explanations. The therapeutic relationship is an experience and, more often than not, a transformative one.

So why wouldn’t I hire a coach?

A coach strives to help you change your behavior and works with the conscious mind. In fact, most therapists also work with the conscious mind to address symptoms. Psychoanalysis examines the internal world – the unconscious mind – and aids in the change of one’s character.

Why is it so important to examine the unconscious?

Operating primarily from our unconscious can be very destructive. People often struggle with behavior that they’re not quite happy with. Some people will overeat, overclean, smoke, cheat, steal, abuse alcohol and drugs, etc and make countless empty promises to themselves to quit, only to find themselves deeply frustrated. I will help you identify unconscious conflicts with the goal of integrating these aspects of yourself that feel split. In my experience, the most efficient method of change is through the therapeutic relationship. Consistent therapy compels you to be more methodical rather than repetitious.

How long will therapy take?

How long have you been struggling? Psychic change does not happen overnight.

What population do you work with?

I work with a diverse population from low to high functioning and all ages. Some people see me to understand themselves better, and others to tackle self- destructive behavior such as addiction and eating disorders. I have extensive experience for those struggling with PTSD and practice EMDR. I also work with Asian Americans who struggle with cross-cultural and inter-generational issues.

What is the purpose of therapy?

I believe that through therapy we can find greater authenticity and with greater authenticity, we can achieve greater intimacy.

How frequently do I need to come?

The minimum is once a week. The maximum five days a week.

Do you take insurance?

I give you a bill at the end of the month that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
